One lucky winner to be treated to a weekend of a lifetime

A whopping R120,000 was raised for charity during the Eat, Drink Barrydale Experience, with the winner revealed at Barrel & Blues this week, much to the delight of organisers and supporters alike.

While Anton van Niekerk walked away as the lucky recipient of an unforgettable Barrydale getaway, the real winner was the ongoing fight against cancer.

According to Conroy Williams, the goal was initially to raise R20,000 in support of the Blood and Beer 4 Cancer initiative, while also promoting Barrydale as a tourism hotspot.

“I was dumbstruck when we reached the R100,000 mark—and to push through to R120,000 is simply mind-blowing,” said Williams.

“I’d like to thank Johan, Hanro, and Jeanette for the energy they put into selling raffle tickets, the Barrydale businesses that backed the cause, and of course, every single person who bought a ticket. You made a real difference in the lives of those battling cancer,” he added.

The Prize Included:

  • A R500 fuel voucher from Route 62 Stop
  • A Saggy Stone experience at the Karoo Boutique Hotel
  • A R250 voucher at the Barrydale Backpackers and Dung Beetle Pub
  • Pies and a pint at The Country Pumpkin
  • A Metanoia Gin experience at Mud Modern
  • Shooters and a special meal at Bistro Blues Pub & Grill
  • Breakfast at the Karoo Art Hotel
  • Accommodation at Bronze Grove

Winners also had the option of a morning hike in the Langeberg Mountains or a cold-water plunge in the scenic Tradouw Pass.

Williams confirmed that a summer edition of the Eat, Sleep Barrydale experience is already in the works. The aim is to further boost tourism to his hometown, while continuing to raise funds for meaningful causes.

“Barrydale has so much to offer. It’s one of the most popular biking destinations around, and on the flip side, the village is also home to some incredibly gifted artists. We can’t wait to showcase it again,” said Williams.
