In what is becoming a theme in small town Barrydale, Rene Butzer has stepped up to assist a worthy cause in his community by manufacturing fire beaters that will serve a dual purpose.
Under the guidance of Johan Olivier of Montagu Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Butzer decided that he would start to manufacture fire beaters that will greatly assist the newly established Fire Smart drive in town.
“I visited Johan in Montagu and he showed me some of the fire beaters they use, and from there I sourced material and started to create a few samples before I started a larger scale production in Barrydale,” said Butzer.
While these important fire fighting tools will greatly assist the team that is playing an active role in fire prevention in the area, Butzer added that proceeds from the sales would serve as a fundraising mechanism for Barrydale Fire Smart.
Speaking on behalf of Barrydale Farmer’s Association, Deon van Tonder welcomed this initiative and said that many farmers in the area would support this drive.
According to Hannette Cooke, founding member of Barrydale Fire Smart, the fire beater drive is but one of many initiatives that will be launched over time to ensure that the correct equipment can be purchased for the organization.
“Rene is an absolute star and a Barrydaler who is always willing to lend a helping hand,” said Cooke.
While the quality of these samples were praised by all in sunder, the hard work of mass producing now lies ahead.
