Just when disgraced traffic officer Andile Dondolo thought life behind bars couldn’t get any worse, it was confirmed today (July 11) that he will also stand trial on charges of animal cruelty.

Dondolo (57), along with Karel Davids (53) of the Ashton Traffic Department and civilian Jason Naidoo (59), were convicted of corruption in the Cape Town Regional Court on 7 July.
On 1 February 2024, the Swellendam SPCA laid animal cruelty charges against Dondolo under the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.
He was due to appear in the Swellendam Magistrates’ Court today, but could not do so because he is currently incarcerated.
Indications are that Dondolo had intended to plead guilty to the animal cruelty charges.
It is very likely that a requisition will be made to have Dondolo brought before the court.
Dondolo and the other men who were found guilty on corruption charges will learn their fate when sentencing is handed down on 29 August 2025.
