Swellendam Municipality has confirmed that the Hawks are currently conducting investigations into serious matters that have caused great uproar in the Overberg region in recent times.

According to Municipal Manager, Anneleen Vorster, this high-performing team that is known for its critical role in tackling organised crime, financial crime, and corruption, is currently taking a closer look at the Vermaak Report, which highlighted potentially serious concerns relating to the municipality’s procurement procedures.
The report unveiled extensive irregularities, suggesting systemic corruption and significant mismanagement of public funds.
“It is my understanding that the Hawks is (sic) investigating the allegations contained in the preliminary Vermaak Report. I have no idea about their progress in this respect,” Vorster told News62.
It is well known that many of the crimes investigated by the Hawks involve cyber‑forensic elements.
