News62 is thrilled to announce one of the most significant developments in the company’s history that is set to enhance our journalistic reach and depth.
From humble beginnings in Barrydale, the business will now also provide coverage of news and events in the greater Western Cape and beyond.

Previously News62 would only every ponder over the Langeberg Mountains for Municipal related matters, but with Van Der Berg and his team on board as both shareholders and key role players in our editorial team, we now have the capacity to spread our wings.
News62 company – established in 2020 – will remain committed to delivering quality news along Route 62, and we view this expansion beyond the scenic route as the best indication that the business has succeeded in one of its key objectives which is making a difference in the community.
We will continue to be the voice for the voiceless as well as the top digital content production and marketing company in the region, but the time has come to go even further.
As the managing editor I’m delighted to welcome Johan and his team to News62 and we trust that our readers will greatly benefit from this renewed focus and unique skills they bring to the table.
By leveraging VM&K’s expertise, News62 is now in a position to enrich its content with diverse perspectives, comprehensive reporting and all I can say is – WATCH THIS SPACE.
Has Van Den Berg finally lost his mind?
This can be viewed as a disclaimer of sorts, but when I was first introduced to Johan the circumstances were far from ideal.
History and politics considered, today many of his closer allies may consider this move into the media realm as a bold, brave or even insane move on his part – but then identifying value is perhaps one of Johan’s strongest traits.
I needed to find answers to some very strange things that were happening in the region and he provided an unmatched level insight that would ultimately form the base of our friendship.
Plus, as it turns out, he is a decent golfer and drummer.

Johan, the mastermind behind a hospital that will soon be built in Swellendam, had the following to say about his latest business venture.
“I’m looking forward to my partnership with Mickey Mentz. He approaches journalism pretty much the way I approach life and that is to do whatever you have to do for justice, for the community and for the people that you love and respect,”
“That is where Mickey and I found each other and that’s what we would like to expand into the wider region and the country. Who knows what the future holds.”
