The couple are by no means strangers to Barrydale and from this experience, they will most definitely be back.
They wrote te following about the time they spent in this all new club in Smitsville
“We did an internship at the Healthy Mom & Baby Clinic in Jeffreysbay and what they do is to provide preventive and perinatal health care to women and kids in the local community/townships. We learned about the health system in South Africa and the challenges the community faces“
About our experience with the Fight Club:
“When we heard about the fight club through our Airbnb host and we immediately wanted to visit the fight club.
The next morning we met Conroy Williams and were immediately amazed by the lively paintings of celebrity fighters and the atmosphere of the club (previous bar).
We were able to chat with Conroy about the philosophy of boxing and fighting and the vision of the fight club. Authenticity and community were some of the important aspects we’ve discussed.
We were continuing our travels to Jeffrey’s Bay and hoped to come back one month later on our way back home, which we eventually did.
It was nice to come back to Barrydale and see the progress of the fight club. We felt the warmheartedness of both the community around the fight club as well as the venue itself.
When we entered the fight club we encountered the youngsters who just finished fighting, all listening well to their teacher.
We were honoured to get our private boxing class, focusing on the basics – since fighting is done starting from the feet. It was so much fun!
While the local kids were watching us fight, we got great feedback on our form and performance such that we understood the purpose behind it!
We want to continue boxing in our home country and we are really hoping to come back one day. We will definitely stay in touch about all developments!!“
