It is with great pride that VM&K and News62 can report that several of the local super stars that received our backing this past weekend, did exceptionally well.

While some of these achievements were on the sports grounds, other events simply helped to uplift the community at large.

“Whenever we get involved with an organisation we tell them that it won’t be a case of just making a donation and walking away. We become part of their story and it is therefore simply incredible to see just how well they did,” said VM&K Managing Director Johan van den Berg.

Van den Berg was delighted to see that the young men of Barrydale Fight Club were in top form at the Western Cape Open Boxing Championship which took place in Mosselbay from 2-3 May.

Nine fighters entered the provincial championship. Four made it to the semifinals, two progressed to the finals and the team returned with one gold and one silver medal,

Barrydale Fight Club placed fourth overall.

“This was another excellent achievement by coach Conroy Williams and his team,” Van den Berg noted.

A massive word of congratulations to Nkosinathu Ntole, elite males division 60-63.5kg gold medalist. He will be representing the Western Cape at the National Championships in July.

Thembile Mqambalala secured silver in the elite males 54-57 division.

“A massinve thank you to News62 and VM&K as well as JP and Tammy who supported our team this weekend,” said Williams.

Anyone interested in sponsoring these fine fighters can get in touch with Conroy Williams on 073 160 1338.

SwellieCares: And so do we

Van den Berg noted that VM&K was a proud to be sponsor of the minute of silence in honour of emergency personnel who passed away.

This great gesture was was organised by Dr Jacques Du Toit and the support from the community was exemplary.

Progress Suurbraak show their grit

He would very soon like to be known as the number one supporter of Progress Suurbraak and after this weekend’n massive victory – everyone at the News62 team (even those who will wear nappies this weekend) understand why.

The team secured a 103-13 victory against Le Chasseur of Robertson.

First aid training for Railton, Suurbraak and Buffeljagsrivier

To help those who want to help others is one of the ultimate ways to get involved. For this reason VM&K did not hesitate to sponsor first aid training that was conducted in Railton, Suurbraak and Ashton over the weekend.

“This is where we make a real difference in the community and we are very proud that we could have assisted to make this programme a reality,” Van den Berg said.

The art of showing final respect to those no longer with us

With the backing of VM&K and News62 artist Donovan Julius assisted families in Riversdale who had recently lost their loved ones, by creating lasting memories for them through art.
