“In the ring, there’s no hiding. Only truth, grit, and the will to stand back up.”

The inaugural Karoo Fight Night, presented by Barrydale Fight Club and Karoo 62, proved to be a thrilling spectacle for boxing in the province as some of the Western Cape’s top fighters showcased their grit and skill in the semi-desert.

From the outset, it was clear that every man who stepped into the ring was part of a brotherhood of boxers who take the sport very seriously. These skilled fighters provided top-notch entertainment, much to the delight of friends and fans that attended the event.

Challengers represented clubs from Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Kleinmond, Hermanus, Swellendam, and Barrydale, and all played a crucial role in raising funds for the Beer for Cancer Drive.

Even the fighters making their debut at this stunning venue, just outside Ladismith, delivered punches that left the crowd in awe.

“The dedication of the fighters was exemplary, and I would like to thank each and every one of them and their coaches for the role they play in the development of boxing in the province,” said Barrydale Fight Club coach Conroy Williams.

Williams also thanked the various sponsors for contributing to the success of the event and promised that the next edition of Karoo Fight Night would be an even greater spectacle.

“To all the support staff and our Overberg medic, Mark Thrasher – thank you for your dedication. To all the sponsors, it really warms our hearts that you did not hesitate to get involved in this event. I would like to thank Johan van den Berg of VM & K in particular for his generous contribution to this night and to Barrydale Fight Club.”

At the conclusion of the fights, Oudtshoorn-based rock band Marisca Rain and the Thunder ensured the party continued late into the night, while several guests took part in a Karoo-style Poker Tournament in aid of charity.
