Police officials confirmed today (Sunday) that a fourth suspect was arrested in connection to the murder of Calitzdorp farmer Lourens de Villiers.
De Villiers’ body was discovered at his house at Visarend Eko-lodge at Calitzdorpdam on Tuesday.
His Hyundai-bakkie which was reported stolen was later found abandoned in Matjiesfontein.
A 30-year-old male and two minors aged 14 and 15 were arrested in connection with the murder of Lourens de Villiers
According to police an intensive investigation by a dedicated team of Calitzdorp police detectives and the Attaqua K9 led to the arrest of the three suspects.
“The manhunt for the suspects continued yesterday when a 14-year-old handed himself over to the police. He was immediately taken into custody,” read the police statement.
Further investigation took the detectives to a house at Bergsig (Calitzdorp) where they recovered stolen items that belonged to the deceased. This included a music centre as well as keys of the recovered bakkie.
Police subsequently arrested a 30-year-old man on charges of murder and possession of stolen property.
“A 15-year-old was also arrested earlier today (2021-04-18) after he was also positively linked to the incident. He is also facing a charge of murder.”
The four remains in custody. They are scheduled to appear in the Calitzdorp Magistrates’ court tomorrow (Monday).
