If good food at reasonable prices, served in a relaxed setting is what you are looking for, visit downtown Barrydale for some Hub Grub Under the Oak.
This quant coffee shop is located at the back of The Hub and this is where locals meet every morning to plot their way through the relatively stress-free living they have become so accustomed to.
Here new restaurateur Nicky adds her Greek flavour as she serves all day breakfasts, cakes, Kourabithes (Greek shortbread) and of course coffee between 8am and 2pm Mondays to Fridays.
On Saturdays Hub Grub Under the Oak is open from 8am to 12 noon.
The Hub is open from 8am until 3pm daily and also closes at 12 on Saturdays.
“This is a coffee shop for the locals where they can relax, do their thing and just catch up. Some of the boys play chess, others just sit on the stoep and chat. I’ve kept it simple and they seem to be enjoying it,” Nicky said.
The best grub in Barrydale
As for her light meal selection, Nicky makes delicious toasted sandwiches, hamburgers that are a huge hit with locals, hotdogs and on Tuesdays and Thursdays she serves home cooked meals that range from traditional favourites like curry and rice, to Greek spinach pies, Greek Moussaka.
We suggest you pre-order and pay for these home cooked meals in advance as they are so popular, Barrydale music collector turned hermit Charl Barry was seen leaving his home more over the last few weeks, than he has in the six months.
“I had the Mousakka yesterday and it was not only incredibly delicious, it was great value for money. A true gem in Barrydale, that’s for sure” Charl commented.
But don’t take Charl’s word for it, we recommend that you visit Barrydale’s Hub Grub Under the Oak and see for yourself.
