SWELLENDAM – A Supply Chain Management (SCM) official at Swellendam Municipality was suspended today (August 13) following an investigation into alleged corruption involving financial transactions with service providers.
According to the Municipality, the matter came to light after a through an internal investigation. A criminal case has already been opened with the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Municipal officials confirmed that they are fully cooperating with SAPS while also pursuing internal disciplinary procedures.
“We are adhering to due process and will provide an update once it is legally permissible to do so, without compromising the investigation or violating POPIA and labour laws,” Swellendam Municiaplity’s Executive Mayor, Francois Du Rand said.
The investigation is ongoing.
