23-Year-Old Man Shot Dead at Swellendam Spaza Shop

SWELLENDAM – Swellendam police have opened a murder case following a fatal shooting at a spaza shop in Renonkel Street on Thursday evening, February 19.

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that officers were alerted to the incident after receiving a complaint from the local hospital at approximately 21:50.

“A 23-year-old male was brought to the hospital by a private vehicle with two gunshot wounds to his chest and buttocks. He was declared dead on arrival,” said Gwala.

He added that the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation and that no arrests have been made at this stage.

Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the Swellendam SAPS.

According to locals this is the second fatal shooting at a spaza shop in the last two weeks.
