Scrumptious sounds, flavours at the Karoo Saloon on Sundays

While not taking anything away from long the standing favourites that feature on their every day menu, the Karoo Saloon has recently decided to raise the culinary bar ever so slightly by adding chef Marcelle Coetzee’s skills to their kitchen on Sundays.

It is turning out to be a huge hit. A chart topper if you will.

Known locally as the resident drummer and food forest engineer/landscaping consultant (he is also a great guitarist and didgeridoo player) Marcelle’s real vocation is as a chef.

Whether he just swops out his drumsticks for chopsticks or prepares a pasta with produce he hand picked from his own garden, his distinct style is what becomes apparent in whatever he is busy with.

From traditional favourites like lamb potjie, to Italian dishes that would be lauded on the streets of Da Vincenzo, patrons understand that they will always be in for a treat.

The only setback at this stage is that he simply cannot man the drum-kit and perform his magic in the kitchen at the same time – although they are working on a solution for that.

The closest Karoo Saloon’s management has come to solving this conundrum is to include live music that compliments the dishes he is making.

Last week Chris Niemand’s guitar helped with the digestion of the tagliatelle Alfredo while this weekend the High End Blues band will set the tone for the Louisiana Sunday Blues meals that will be on offer.

The catch – book your table in advance as only a limited number of tickets are available for these culinary experiences.
