Businesses set to throw heavy punches at Barrydale Fight Night

Written by Mickey Mentz

An elite group of fighters representing local businesses have confirmed that they will be putting their bodies and egos on the line at the inaugural Barrydale Fight Night that will take place at the Recreational Club on December 12.

This fundraising event is the brainchild of local coach Conroy Williams of Panic Room Boxing Club who is on a mission to ensure that more of his fighters will have the opportunity to compete at provincial level next year.

“This year only two of our fighters were able to join me at the provincial championships and I would like to ensure that we raise enough funds to take a bigger group in 2021,” said Conroy who happens to be the Western Cape Kick Boxing Champion in his division.

Panic Room Boxing Club currently has two Western Cape Kickboxing champions in their ranks and returned with one silver and two bronze medals from this year’s provincial championship that took place in March.

Conroy firmly believes that there is more than enough talented fighters in the area to build on their success and sees Fight Night as an opportunity for his squad to showcase their skills.

He also sees the evening as an opportunity for the community to have a much needed fun filled evening.

Business bouts

While Conroy’s fighters will do a few exhibition fights on the night, News62 can exclusively confirm that no less than 12 local businesses have entered staff members who will compete in white-collar fights.

That’s right, every day workers from Agrimark to Pep Store, the OK and beyond will commence training under the watchful eye of Conroy on November 2 as they look to defend their company’s honour.

We can also confirm that this spectacle is likely to attract enthusiasts from Boksburg to Klapmuts.

Former SA Bantamweight Champion Theo Modise will referee these long-standing business feuds.

Meanwhile News62 has been reliably informed that Kyle Berry of Mez Karoo Kitchen (one of the first fighters to confirm his availability) has been secretly helping himself to extra servings of their legendary Melanzane Alla Parmigiana in preparation for his fight.

This mouthwatering dish is known to be a great source of vitamins and minerals while it also improves bone healing.

“I’ve got this and I will do it with my eyes closed,” Kyle allegedly said according to rumours.

To the untrained eye it may appear that Kyle has a plan, but he then allegedly quoted Mike Tyson and said “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.”

Eyes wide shut – Kyle promises to open a can of whip-ass come December 12

Kyle’s opponent for this bout will be confirmed later this week – along with some of the other tantalising match-ups that include local legend Lynelle Crafford aka the Agri Agressor.
