Retreat to Red Mountain Ridge for rejuvenation of body, mind and soul

Written by Mickey Mentz

Situated on the outskirts of Calitzdorp, the blushing mountains will leave you breathless.

Red Mountain Ridge is a quiet, peaceful place where you can bury the chaos of every day life to ensure that body, mind and soul is rejuvenated.

It is a place where you can converse with Mother Nature through her mighty mountains while also enjoying some of Man’s very best amenities.

The classic Karoo guest-farm style is captured in seven luxurious self-catering units.

Red Mountain Ridge is not just an excellent stopover option in the Klein Karoo – at this establishment you will experience the spirit of the ancient mountains and get back in touch with your true self.

This a very special place – a place that you will definitely have to visit more than once in your lifetime.

And if the breathtaking views that the mountains provide at dusk and dawn (and most other times of the day) do not replenish your energy levels, the fresh clean Karoo air and year-round natural beauty of premises will.

Located 15 minutes from Calitzdorp, just off our world famous Route62, Red Mountain Ridge is one of the best-kept secrets in the region as it only recently opened its doors to the public.

It is an ideal base camp for adventurers who would like to explore the Groenfontein Valley Circle Route, the Cango Wildlife Farm and other magnificent tourist destinations.

In class of its own

The News62 crew, however, found it almost impossible to venture any further than the magnificent hiking trials and lush lawns that makes this such an incredible place.

Here guests have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the blushing mountains.

The sediments of the mountains are rich in an iron mineral called Hematite that oxidized in the warm humid climate to a reddish colour – giving Red Moutain Ridge its name.

Origins of Red Mountain Ridge

Originally this belt of red, gravel sediments formed the Northern margin of the Oudtshoorn basin but 100-million years of erosion has left isolated koppies in a band stretching from DeRust almost to Calitzdorp.

Red Mountain Ridge is therefore very rich in bio diversity and while the establishment has captured the spirit of the mountains, a concerted effort was made to highlight the abundance of plant life.

To this end the Spekboom, a plant that is known for its ability to rejuvenate and replenish, is captured in the elegantly chosen décor of each self-catering unit.

All of this makes Red Mountain Ridge a very special place – a place that you will definitely have to visit more than once in your lifetime.
