101 Reasons to shop at the Sorgvry Christmas Market in Barrydale

Written by Mickey Mentz

In a News62 exclusive we can confirm that Cruella de Vil will be attending the very first Sorgvry Christmas Market on the Lawns that is scheduled to take place in Barrydale on Saturday November 28.

Her motive (thank goodness) is not to purchase any puppies. Instead the infamous cartoon villain highlighted 101 other reasons why this market is likely to be a huge hit.

“Firstly, this market will take place at an exquisite venue that has become a must see for everyone that visits the quant village that is Barrydale,” De Vil said in a Zoom interview from her Hell Hall abode, located in Suffolk, England.

“May I also take this opportunity to extend my sincerest gratitude to my good friend and ally Cyril Ramaphosa who recently reopened South Africa’s borders for tourism. We met at Evil Expo 2003 and got along like a Listeriosis party in Polokwane. What a handsome bloke”.

It was at this point where Sorgvry owner Uwe Meyer interjected the online chat, stating that, in the spirit of Christmas, political banter would not be allowed.

Instead he highlighted that there would be no less than 12 stalls at the Christmas Market on the Lawns and that visitors can on the day look forward to a variety of arts and crafts, gifts, Ludwig Roses, home baked breads and cakes as well as a variety of traditional foods.

As was the case when they opened their garden for a market during Barrydale in Bloom, the Barrydale Youth Desk will again be in charge of Roosterkook while the delightful Doris Nadler has the responsibility of ensuring vegetarian/vegan visitors also have something to snack on.

“We had such a great response from our first market and when we were asked if we were going to do something for Christmas we said… why not,” Uwe commented.

“We will consider doing this market more regularly, but for now it is great just to have a small gathering for the community and residents. Plus it will be a great opportunity to get some good presents for the festive season.”

As is required of all German descendants, Uwe confirmed that provision has also been made for the sale of world class Bratwurst and Sauerkraut.

The market starts at 10am on Saturday morning and will be open until 4pm.
