What began as a list of 10 affordable activities has grown into a guide featuring 143 experiences, with Barrydale now also on the map for visitors looking to explore more of the region.

A list that started with 10 things to do for under R100 has grown into 143 reasons to get out and explore Montagu and its surrounds.

The latest edition of the Montagu-Ashton Tourism Association’s (MATA) popular guide now includes Barrydale, giving visitors even more reason to discover what the Langeberg has to offer.

The initiative began as a media response highlighting 10 affordable activities in and around Montagu. The list soon grew to more than 100 suggestions, and the latest edition now offers 143 ideas for locals and visitors alike.

MATA says the original concept recently came up during an interview with Sue Pyler-Slabbert on RSG. She recalled the original under-R100 list, which had its roots in the Langeberg.

The updated guide includes everything from free outdoor activities and heritage sites to wine tastings, local markets and more indulgent outings into the surrounding countryside.

Visitors can take a walk along Lovers Walk, browse local art galleries, explore the history of Cogmanskloof or enjoy the mountain scenery. Those looking for something different can consider a wine tasting at Bloupunt Wines for R100 or the popular tractor trip into the mountains at Protea Farm.

Other suggestions include enjoying five beers at R62 Brewery for R100 and visiting the Montagu Village Market, where entrance is free.

The guide is built around the idea that exploring the area does not have to cost a fortune. Whether visitors are planning a family holiday, entertaining friends or looking for a weekend outing, there are options for a range of budgets and interests.

With Barrydale now included, the list also offers another opportunity to encourage visitors to travel beyond the familiar stops and spend more time exploring the wider region.

MATA is encouraging accommodation establishments, tourism businesses and local residents to share the updated guide with guests and visitors.

The list is available free of charge from the MATA Tourism Office at 27 Bath Street, Montagu.

From a modest list of 10 affordable activities to 143 experiences across the area, the guide has come a long way. And with Barrydale now part of the picture, there is even more to explore.

The list is available free of charge from the MATA Tourism Office at 27 Bath Street, Montagu. Download the PDF attached below to discover the Barrydale activities featured in the guide, then share it with friends, family and visitors.
