With indications that Mayor Francois du Rand will be ending his term as mayor, there are concerns in the community as to who will be taking care of the CCK district from 2026.
If we are honest with ourselves Du Rand and Donanvan Julius have worked hard in the community while, the other 9 benchwarmers…sorry…moaners…apologies…councillors didn’t do much apart from finger pointing, blaming and creating anarchy and division.
A lack of community focus and anything positive was at the order of the day. That off course, on the days that they were seen in the public eye or reachable. The biggest waste of budget was without any doubt on their salaries.
What is more disheartening are now the newbies who want to join the poker game…
One being a well known Swellendam individual, show boating around in new assets and beach homes, none of which we could find to belonging to him by running basic credit profile checks. Obviously, we dug deeper, and the deeper we dug, the more reason we had to break down in tears and disbelief.
Another, from the opposition this time, had a criminal record that will make the underworld proud and printing it ended the lives of many trees in a SAPPI forest.
It seems to be a must in the CCK district for the upcoming recruitment of politicians to be at very least a tad dodgy…or notorious. It is almost like there is an opposing view of role models: one side Donald Trump and the other El Chapo.
What brings a glimmer of hope is the fact that this opens the door for the people who know these individuals to cast their vote for the minority parties and empower those locally who want to serve the community, and not their agendas or egos.
We can only hope that the likes of Helen, Cyril and Gayton are not blinded by these obvious manipulative individuals who so easily blind their followers.
Time to pray CCK
