There is the Mayor of Swellendam Local Municipality, Francois du Rand, then there are several wise guys who claim to be mayor and then there is the first and original ‘Mayor’ of Barrydale and his name is Meyer Joubert.
This born and bred Barrydaler this week proved again that kindness is a virtue of showing love when he and his wife Beate went out of their way to help the Pretorius family who had experienced some car trouble.
Disclaimer: Being the busy farmer he is, Meyer would most certainly not have picked this up on his Joubert-Tradauw wine farm’s Instagram feed, but fortunately this village journalist did.
Renee Pretorius published a post stating the following:
“What a legend, Meyer Joubert. He restored our faith in humanity. Helped us even though he runs a very busy farm. Our car broke down after we did a wine tasting on his farm.
He came to our aid and helped us get a new battery in good faith from the Toyota dealer, Willem, in Montagu.
He was even prepared to give us one of his own vehicles, if we could not get our own car going. Thank goodness that was not necessary. And to top it all their wines are superb. You can taste the passion he has for his craft. If in the area it is well worth the visit. #winefarm #goodsmaritan #supportlocal”
We’d say give this man a Bells, but his Chardonnay is by far a bigger reward!
