On 10 December we will know who the real Mayor (or Meyer) is when two prolific local figures do battle in the main fight of Barrydale Fight Night Origins at the Karoo Art Hotel’s Belanti Ballroom.
In a twist which saw local MMA World Champion Conroy Williams withdraw at the last mine due to an ankle injury, winemaker extraordinaire at Joubert-Tradauw, Meyer-Joubert, has confirmed that he will take on Swellendam Mayor Francois du Rand in what pundits have labelled “The Wine and Dine Derby”.
While Meyer is known to produce world class wines, the Mayor happens to be a qualified chef and thus knows how to handle himself when it gets really hot in the kitchen.
Meanwhile temperatures in Barrydale have soared in recent times and Meyer feels it is because of the poor condition that his beloved town’s roads are in.
“Francois, ons is gatvol vir die potholes, ons sal in die ring moet gesels!” Meyer said while showcasing another unique ability – he has from a very young age mastered an ancient language that only a handful of people in the universe understand.

A fight for the youth
This scrumptious meal disguised as a charity boxing event includes no less than eight fights on the night and tickets are selling like hotcakes.
All proceeds from this evening will go towards the construction of a youth sports facility in Barrydale and while Meyer just landed the first blow, the Mayor is a Blobul and Steve has made it so very clear that under no circumstances will a Bloubul eat from the floor.
