Barrydale Fight Night – Reloaded

Barrydale Fight Night

It is going to be brutal – or brutally entertaining as Barrydalers get up close and personal

If the overwhelming turnout to the first edition of Barrydale Fight Night is anything to go by, residents should brace themselves for another mouthwatering evening of white-collar boxing on December 11at the Barrydale Recreational Club.

“The fighters are ready, and yes we will again see a few very familiar faces in town battle it out in the ring,” organiser Conroy Williams confirmed.

The King to enter the ring

In one of the main feature fights this year, Conroy confirmed that he will be entering the ring to take on a strong contender. He added that he has not been as well prepared for a fight in many years.

Fighting for a better future

Fight Night was born out of Conroy’s passion to improve the lives of young men (and women) in Barrydale by providing them with extra curricular activities that stimulates both body and mind.

To further his objective Conroy has set himself the target of raising R200 000 that he will use to build a dojo where his Barrydale Panic Room students can further their skills.

The club already boasts provincial and national champions and provides many youths the opportunity to gain valuable life skills – at no cost whatsoever.

“Discipline, commitment and courage are some of the values the Panic Room fighters (raging from as young as 8 years old) gain,” Conroy said.

“We know that with the adequate facilities we will attract even more youngsters and continue to build a culture of good sportsmanship in town,” he added.

The section of land behind the Recreational Club’s tennis courts has been identified as the best suited area to erect the dojo. Conroy said that he has received a provisional green light from the powers that be to build there and that he is excited to get things going.

Working alongside members of Barrydale Youth Desk, Conroy is a champion of creating activities that provide the youth with an alternative to a life of drugs and crime.

Local businesses show their support

This initiative has already received tremendous support from the local business community and the hope is that the funds he so desperately needs to complete this project will be raised on the night.

As for this year’s fights, News62 can exclusively confirm that Hand Weavers head Honcho Arran Bastable will be in the ring this year – defending the pride of Scotland.

Colin the Magnificent of Swellendam Municipality also vowed to make a comeback, but this year he has a bone to pick with a certain Barrydale SAPS official…one of Conroy’s collegues…

News62 can also confirm that the one and only Kaap Agri aggressor Lynelle confirmed her attendance after having to withdraw from last year’s fight with a brandy-injury.

And finally Fight Night fans are waiting in anticipation to see whether for Kyle Melanzane Berry will again bless us with his presence in the ring.

Kyle recently opened up his own dopshop and this could prompt Barrydale’s Booze Boss Stefaans of Route 62 Liquors to make his make his long awaited debut.

All will be revealed over the next few weeks.
