When your farm had barely survived a seven-year drought, which included a mountain fire that wiped out a significant part of your livelihood, the last thing you need is government enforced travel ban.
Indeed, the evaporation of international tourism has taken its toll on many businesses along the R62 and at the Joubert-Tradauw Vineyards and Cellar this anomaly, that included the ban of exports, could easily have been the last nail in their coffin.
Yet somehow, they miraculously survived and perhaps the devastating effects of one of the longest dry-spells in living history served as a teacher that reminded them to stay positive no matter what life throws at you.
With improved rainfall (it is looking promising at the moment) and good local support (this can always be better Barrydale) the light at the end of the tunnel might start shining brighter at R62’s most iconic wine farm.

But in the meantime the most important thing to remember when you enter the slice of heaven that is Joubert-Tradauw it is the fact that although times have been tough, they somehow managed to provide the same (if not improved) world class experience to their patrons.
Beate Joubert has perfected the art of pairing her dishes to the picture perfect boutique wines that husband Meyer bottles every season. This culinary experience at this Alfresco Deli is presented on a personal level – a level so intimate that the love and effort they put into their product has become an integral part of the experience.

The positivity – that so often disappears when the chips are down – is best reflected in the stunning presentation of the splendid summer inspired platters and gourmet dishes that are served mostly over weekends.
If for some bizarre reason you are not able to visit the farm (we recommend that you book your table in advance) their exquisite wines are available online.
