Barrydale residents lauds local estate agent for going beyond the call of duty

As she prepares to bid Barrydale farewell for the second time in her life, beloved resident Joan Warr admitted that she now has a special place in her heart for Ruth Goodman.

Ruth, Dormehl Property Group area agent for Barrydale and its surrounds, recently sold Joans lovely house situated on the corner of Van Coller van Van Riebeeck Street and, in doing so, restored her faith in realtors.

“I had a very bad run-in with an estate agent when my husband and I purchased this house in 2014, but Ruth proved that not all estate agents are the same.

Joan and her late husband Michael first lived in Steyn Street (for 20 years) then returned to the UK, only to return to Barrydale for a second time.

From a total distrust of realtors – when she first decided she was going to sell her house and move back to England she listed the property online – Joan ended-up making a friend who has her best interest at heart.

“What I learned in my experience with Ruth is that she always goes the extra mile for her clients. In fact, she cares about everyone she interacts with and she genuinely takes interest in what people share with her. “Joan commented.

Transparency throughout the process

While admitting that the process of selling her home was no walk in the park – it took time to find the right buyers –  Joan said that transparency between agent and the owner was of such a nature that she always remained confident that the right buyer would come along.

“Ruth does her homework. She analises both the needs of the buyer and the seller and before a viewing is arranged she always tries to ensure that she shows the right people the property.”

Joan said that Ruth first lays out the facts and then looks at the possibilities that would be in the best interest of all parties involved.

“She did much more than sell my house,” Joan said, adding that it would take an eternity to list all the little things she had done for her.

“What people can learn from Ruth is that you will never get the same results if you do not put in the effort she does.”

Unmatched dedication

Joan said that Ruth works around the clock to get the best results for her clients and that her passion for Barrydale is unmatched.

“She would work these extreme hours and yet she still has the time to get away from it all and recharge in nature. That’s what Ruth does and I’d like to thank her for being the kind person she is.”

As excited as Joan is to be returning to her family in the UK, she admitted that the 30 years of her life that she spent in Barrydale were a blessing and that even though she will be saying goodbye to Africa again, Africa would never leave her.
