Bikers ride for charity

On March 12 bikers from Cape Town drove along Route 62 to raise funds for
rural children in Smitsville, a village in Barrydale.

Their partner in this initiative, Ladles of Love and founder Daniele Diliberto
arrived in Barrydale on Friday 11th with enough food to feed 150 children at
Net Vir Pret and for 60 elderly residents from the Ebenaeser Club for the
Elderely, Smitsville.

This will enable both Net Vir Pret and the Ebenaeser Club to continue providing meals for the community.

The bikers gathered at the Karoo Daisy Restaurant on the R62 where the Swellendam Municipality Deputy Mayor, Michael Pokwas addressed and welcomed the guests.

Pokwas promised all visitors that they would be assured of exceptional hospitality, safety whilst in the village and thanked the IAHV team and Ladles of Love for the initiative and care for the village.

Principal of BF Oosthuizen school, Mr Jaco WIndvogel, was present for the handover of library books for the children as well as Peter Takelo from Net vir Pret, with the donation coming from the Western Cape Library.

Shane Petzer was honoured and remembered for the incredible community
work that he has done in the village and we follow his legacy by continuing
this very important initiative.

The DAWN (Disadvantaged Women’s Network, Smitsville) and the Ebanaeser
Club for the elderly were present and outlined their initiatives and role in the
community. The DAWN women’s group’s initiative is to create food gardens
for the community.

Conroy Williams, local policeman in Barrydale who is a champion of creating activities in Barrydale that provide the youth with an alternative to a life of drugs and crime shared his heart touching story and how one person can make a huge
impact in the life of a child.

Children from the community danced their way into the hearts of the bikers,
volunteers and guests, showcasing some of the important work that Net Vir
Pret does in the area.

The next Bikers School Africa ride is scheduled for the end of May 2022.
